3,263 PETITIONERS SUPPORT BREITKREUZ’S “WOMAN’S RIGHT TO KNOW ACT”

“Thousands march on Parliament Hill to mourn the death of more than 100,000 unborn children every year.”

Yorkton – On Tuesday of this week, Garry Breitkreuz, MP for Yorkton-Melville, tabled hundreds of petitions in Parliament with the signatures of 3,263 Canadians.  They all support his Private Members’ Motion M-482 that calls on the government to introduce a bill entitled, the Woman’s Right to Know Act.

Mr. Garry Breitkreuz (Yorkton—Melville, CPC): Mr. Speaker, the first petition that I would like to present concerns my Woman's Right to Know Act. I am presenting petitions signed by 3,263 concerned Canadians from across Canada who support my Woman's Right to Know Act. These petitioners support my bill because it would guarantee that all expectant mothers considering an abortion would be given complete information by their physician about all the risks of the procedure before being referred for an abortion and would provide penalties for doctors who perform an abortion without the fully informed consent of the mother and penalties for doctors who perform a medically unnecessary abortion.  On Thursday of this week, thousands of people will gather on Parliament Hill for the annual March for Life. They march every year to mourn the death of more than 100,000 unborn children in Canada through medically unnecessary abortions. As you can see, Mr. Speaker, there is quite a number of petitioners.

“I commend the efforts and the commitment of the organizers and participants in the annual March For Life on Parliament Hill,” said Breitkreuz.  “Despite the fact that their persistent pleas fall on the deaf ears of the Liberal government, they never give up.  They are an inspiration to us all.”

“A Leger Marketing poll taken last October on behalf of Life Canada revealed that 69% of Canadians favour informed consent legislation on abortion,” said Breitkreuz.  “It’s simply amazing that Prime Minister Paul Martin, who claims that one of his top priorities is fixing the ‘democratic deficit’ in Parliament, ignores the majority opinion of the public he purports to serve,” concluded Breitkreuz.
