BREITKREUZ WANTS TO KNOW: "WHAT DO YOU THINK?"

"Don't wait until election time to send a message to Ottawa -- tell your MP now."

Yorkton - Twice a year, Garry Breitkreuz sends a mailing called "News and Views" to every household in the Yorkton-Melville constituency asking voters what they think about various issues. The next issue, which will arrive in your mail boxes this week or next, contains information about some of the things your Member of Parliament is doing in Ottawa, projects he is working on and issues coming up in the House of Commons for which he needs advice and voter input. Every issue of "News and Views" contains a questionnaire and the survey results from the previous mailing. "In order to be an effective voice for my constituents in Ottawa, I need to know what the voters think. Democracy doesn't work very well if voters don't take a bit of time between elections to contribute their ideas and opinions to the process," said Breitkreuz.

Breitkreuz has been a leading political figure in the fight against the Liberal government's flawed gun control bill, but says now that the fight against Bill C-68 has to wait until the next election, he has some new priorities which include: (1) strengthening Canadian families, (2) sustainable funding for medicare, (3) making the Wheat Board more accountable to producers, and (4) increased use of the Hudson Bay route and the Port of Churchill for shipping grain.

"When I came to Ottawa, I joined with a number of Reform MPs to establish the Reform Family Task Force. We have been instrumental in establishing 'Interim Policy' on sexual orientation, definition of the family, child support, and child care. Reform MPs have led the way fighting Liberal legislation which intrudes even more into the lives of Canadian families and erodes parental rights and responsibilities. Personally, I have introduced a number of Private Member's Motions which, if passed by Parliament, would help strengthen families across Canada. A complete list of all the Private Members Bills and Motions I have am working on is included in my next householder," noted Breitkreuz.

This upcoming issue of "News and Views" also includes articles on: "MedicarePlus", "Charter of Duties and Responsibilities", and "The People's Tax Form". The MP's Questionnaire asks you for your opinion on constitutional vetoes and "distinct society" status for Quebec, the Canadian Wheat Board and the future of the Port of Churchill. "Your input is vital if I am to properly represent your views in the House of Commons," said Breitkreuz. "I can get up and make speeches in Parliament based on what I think but it is a lot more effective to give speeches telling the Government what the voters of Yorkton-Melville think."
