"REFORM GIVES VOICE TO OVER A MILLION QUEBECERS
"The views of Quebec gun owners have been "Bloc-ed" by their own MPs."
Ottawa - "Quebec MPs seem to care more about partisan politics than they do about democracy," said Garry Breitkreuz, Reform MP for Yorkton-Melville in Saskatchewan. Today, Breitkreuz appeared before the House of Commons Justice Committee and stood up for the rights of responsible firearm owners from Quebec and against Bill C-68. Groups representing over a million Quebecers opposing gun control had been denied a voice by all 75 Quebec MPs, regardless of their partisan affiliation - be it Liberal, Bloc or Progressive Conservative. They had to turn to Reform to find a Member of Parliament to represent their position on the flawed gun control bill.
"My opposition to Bill C-68 is well-known," commented Breitkreuz. "But my appearance today was less against gun control than it was for democracy. These citizens have a right to be heard and I am proud, on behalf of myself and the Reform Party, to give them the voice their own MPs denied them."
