Repeal C-68, The Firearms Act, Say 2,275 Petitioners to Parliament

Ottawa – Even Garry Breitkreuz, MP for Yorkton-Melville, is impressed with the staying power of responsible gun owners. "The Liberals thought firearm owners would just give up without a fight. But here they are still lobbying government two and half years after Bill C-68 was passed by Parliament," observed Breitkreuz. "A couple of thousand names introduced today and thousands more back in my office waiting for verification by the Clerk of Petitions."Breitkreuz made the following statement in the House of Commons when he introduced the petitions:
Mr. Speaker, today I am pleased to present a 91-page petition with 2,275 signatures. These citizens are concerned about violent crime and they want safer streets. They are concerned that the government is now implementing stricter gun control laws despite the fact that a 1995 Canadian Facts survey showed that 90% of Canadians do not believe it will solve violent crime.
So these petitioners request Parliament to repeal Bill C-68, the Firearms Act and redirect the hundreds of millions of dollars being wasted on registering legally-owned guns to other more cost-effective measures to improve public safety such as: putting more police on the streets, more women’s crisis centres, and more suicide prevention centres.
"Now that these first petitions have been introduced, I will provide responsible firearm owners with regular updates called the ‘Fed-Up’ Reports. These reports will keep a running tally of the number of signatures received on ‘Repeal C-68 Petitions’ between now and the next election," promised Breitkreuz. "This way, law-abiding gun owners won’t have to wait until the next election to send the government a message."
