The
25,000 members of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) tip their hat
to Garry Breitkreuz, M.P. for Yorkton-Melville, for taking the lead role
in the creation of a non-partisan Federal Outdoor Caucus.
In a letter to fellow MPs, Breitkreuz said the caucus’ mission would be to entrench in law fishing, hunting, trapping and shooting sports as acceptable, traditional, environmentally-sustainable outdoor heritage activities, with safety and a conservation ethic as its highest priority. Mr. Breitkreuz says the Outdoor Caucus would set as goals: Ensuring that the 5 million Canadians who participate in outdoor sports would have reasonable access to federally managed public lands and waters; increase awareness of the economic importance of outdoor-heritage activities; preserving and promoting outdoor activities and environmental stewardship, and supporting multiple sustainable uses and management of public lands, waters, fish, wildlife and habitat based on sound science and professional natural-resource tenets. “This is a great step towards the recognition and rights protection of the over 5,000,000 Canadian anglers, hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts whose activities generate billions of dollars into Canada’s economy every year’” says Darrell Crabbe, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. Crabbe states that, “The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation is certainly going to encourage all of the province’s MPs and senators to accept Mr. Breitkreuz’s invitation to join this exciting initiative that promises to advance issues of great importance to all of our members.” For more information contact: Darrell Crabbe, Executive
