NEWS RELEASE THE COALITION OF PROVINCIAL-TERRITORIAL FISH & WILDLIFE FEDERATIONS Hunting, fishing & trapping activities a part of the Canadian identity November
20, 2006 - The "Coalition of Provincial and Territorial Fish and
Wildlife Organizations" consists of representatives from each of
the major wildlife organizations in each province and two territories
in Canada. They are Northwest Territories Wildlife Federation, Yukon
Fish & Game Association, British Columbia Wildlife Federation, Alberta
Fish & Game Association, Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, Manitoba
Wildlife Federation, Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters, Federation
Quebecoise de la Faune, New Brunswick Wildlife Federation, Nova Scotia
Federation of Anglers & Hunters, Newfoundland & Labrador Wildlife
Federation and the Prince Edward Island Wildlife Federation. It is the
largest national group of its kind in Canada. Its purpose is to promote
angling and hunting heritage, the outdoors and conservation.
The recent defeat of bill C-222 to recognize hunting, fishing and trapping heritage is very disappointing. The Coalition is however encouraged by a motion introduced by MP, Garry Breitkreuz, calling for a review of all non-regulatory means to recognize, protect and promote Canada's hunting, trapping and fishing heritage activities, and implement an action plan to achieve these objectives. Hunting, fishing & trapping activities are a part of the Canadian identity. It is imperative that we recognize and celebrate this great Canadian heritage. Peter
