Shoot Down the Gun Registry
Windsor Star:
The cost of the federal government's controversial rifle and shotgun
registry continues to mushroom beyond the $1 billion that was disclosed by
Auditor General Sheila Fraser. According to information obtained by Canadian
Alliance MP Garry Breitkreuz, an additional $17.4 million has been spent on the
registry since 1999 and hidden away in various departments not directly
responsible for the program. The disclosure backs up the concerns of Ms. Fraser,
who had accused the Justice Department of failing to report to Parliament all of
the money spent on the registry. The Liberals should shut the registry down
immediately.
