IMPORT AND EXPORT PERMITS ISSUED

FOR FIREARMS & AMMUNITION

JUNE 17, 2004: BREITKREUZ'S ACCESS TO INFORMATION ACT REQUEST

TO THE DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS: For the period from December 1, 1998, please provide copies of reports showing the number of import permits issued and the number of export permits issued for: (1) Firearms; (2) Ammunition, and (3) Firearms related products.

1)      IMPORT PERMITS ISSUED

a)     861 import permits were issued for firearms in the time-frame requested.

b)     No import permits for ammunition were issued as these are under the purview of Natural Resources Canada.

c)      No figures for “firearms related products” are included as these are not controlled and no permits are issued.

2)      ON THE EXPORT SIDE, THE SYSTEM SHOWS THE FOLLOWING:

a)     Permit Issue Date: 1998-01-01 thru 2004-06-24

b)     Firearms and parts (ECL# 2001) 2,344 records were found

c)      Ammunition (ECL 2003) 800 records were found.
