Michael Bryant, the disgraced former Ontario Attorney General responsible for the vehicular death of Darcy Allan Sheppard, is injecting himself into the BC provincial election, parroting typical Liberal talking points in an attempt to influence BC voters.
“Fewer handguns, fewer funerals. Fewer military-style semi-automatic weapons, less gun crime,” said Michael Bryant.
That’s a crass attempt to correlate lawful firearms ownership with drug dealers and gangs, a claim pushed even further into absurdity by Baltej Singh Dhillon, the NDP candidate for Surrey-Serpentine River.
“This sends a shocking message to gangs,” he posted on X.
“Under a John Rustad government, they’ll be able to import and carry these illegal guns with impunity.”[i]
Intentionally Deceitful or Wilfully Ignorant?
As a retired RCMP member, Dhillon ought to know that gang members cannot legally import firearms into Canada.
As a retired RCMP member, Dhillon also ought to know the Criminal Code prohibits carrying firearms in public.
And if Dhillon doesn’t follow the research into firearms lost by the RCMP, he should.
Since 2000, the RCMP has lost 469 handguns, and another 119 were stolen from the RCMP.[ii]
Michael Bryant and Baltej Singh Dhillon would both deceptively refer to these lost and stolen handguns as “domestically sourced crime guns.”
Baltej Singh Dhillon is either lying to British Columbians to advance his political ambitions, or he was so thoroughly incompetent as an RCMP member that he didn’t (and still doesn’t) understand the most basic tenets of Canadian firearms law.
Rustad Takes Alberta and Saskatchewan’s Position on Firearms Confications
Below is the statement by John Rustad that has NDP candidates and their mouthpiece, Michael Bryant, so upset.
“I think the gun laws that have been brought in by the federal government looking to take away and to seize guns from law-abiding citizens in British Columbia,” said BC Conservative Party leader John Rustad.
“I think [that] is the wrong approach. I think that’s an overreach by government and so I will not have any provincial resources being spent on their initiative.”
Rustad’s comments are directly in line with the position of the Alberta and Saskatchewan governments, who passed legislation prohibiting the use of provincial resources to confiscate firearms legally owned by licensed Canadian firearms owners.
BC Voters, You Have A Choice
Eby and his NDP government care far more about their pensions and following Justin Trudeau’s orders to destroy public safety by focusing it away from the problem – drug dealers, gang members and violent criminals – than they ever will about you and your family’s wellbeing.
You can re-elect a corrupt, deceitful and business-destroying New Democrat government who wants you to believe that John Rustad wants drug dealers, gang members and other violent criminals to have unfettered access to illegal guns. (He does not.)
Or you can elect a BC Conservative government, under the leadership of John Rustad, who will focus the provincial government’s resources on getting illegal guns out of the hands of criminals, something the BC NDP under Premier David Eby are loathe to attempt, despite his willingness to parade police officers as props at his press conferences.
Is John Rustad and his BC Conservative Party perfect? Hardly.
Rustad is, however, focused on what matters most to British Columbians – jobs, housing and stopping violent criminals.
No wonder the NDP hates John Rustad and his party so much.

that is clearly libel and Bryant should be sued. I’m sure the membership would agree
