The rain held off on the morning of June 5th –– just long enough for the shooting to finish and the smoke to clear. The Stittsville Shooting Ranges hosted the 7 th Annual Parliamentary Day at the Range, and it was another great success.
Almost 100 Members of Parliament, Senators and staff attended, expending several thousand rounds of ammunition through all types of firearms over the two and a half hours of shooting time.
The event is presented annually by the Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus, the Canadian Shooting Sports Association and the Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association, in cooperation with the Stittsville Shooting Ranges.
It is one of the largest non-partisan events on the Hill, and it just keeps getting better. The keys to the success of this event –– no politics, no media and lots of educative fun. No one left the range without a BIG smile.
This year, a friendly trap competition between Liberal and Conservative M.P.s and Senators was added to the program.
- The Best Shooting Team honours went to the Conservative Team, edging out the Liberal Team on the trap fields. Much fun was had by all!
- The Number One Team overall, was Team Généreux, consisting of Bernard Généreux, M.P., Bev Shipley, M.P., and Ted Falk, M.P.
- The Best Shooter Award went to Blaine Calkins, M.P., a natural marksman if ever there was one.
