Trudeau Kills Legal Handgun Sales in Canada

“We cannot continue to wait to protect people,” Surrey MP Randeep Sarai told reporters at this morning’s press conference.[i]

An odd comment, since Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government has utterly failed to stop gun smuggling from the United States or the drug dealer and gang violence that flows from it.

“Today, our national freeze on handguns is coming into force,” the prime minister said.  “From today forward, it is no longer legal to buy, sell, or transfer a handgun in Canada. We have frozen the market for handguns in this country.”

  • Effective October 21, 2022, 12:01 am Eastern, legal handgun transfers will no longer be processed.
  • Legal handgun transfers initiated prior to today will be processed, as usual, provided there is proof the sale took place prior to October 21, 2022.
  • Gun smuggling and illegal handgun sales by drug dealers and other criminal organizations will continue unimpeded by these regulations.

“This is one of the strongest actions we’ve taken on gun violence in a generation,” Trudeau claimed.

No, today is the day the Canadian government ceased compensating Canadians when their private property is forfeited to the Crown.

Effective immediately, your handguns will be confiscated by the Canadian government when you die, with no compensation to your grieving spouse.

Today, Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government literally stole the valuable private property of grieving partners at the most vulnerable time of their lives – all to “virtuously” pander for votes.

Trudeau’s handgun sales freeze is “irrationally connected” to his stated goal: stopping drug dealers and violent gangs from killing innocent people.

His focus is entirely on preventing RCMP-vetted individuals from pursuing their hobby and their sport.

Is this because drug dealers and gang members pass background checks and apply for Possession and Acquisition Licences before buying their illegal smuggled handguns?

Do you stop drunk driving by seizing and destroying the vehicles of sober drivers?  Of course not, yet this is – and continues to be – Justin Trudeau’s approach on firearms.

Trudeau and his virtue-signalling Liberal government insist that by stopping federally-licenced, RCMP-vetted Canadians from purchasing handguns, he will magically prevent drug dealers and violent gang members from using illegal smuggled handguns to commit their evil.

Justin Trudeau continues to fail Canadians.

There is much confusion over the application to transfer a handgun purchased since the handgun sales freeze was announced in May.

The Regulations Amending Certain Regulations Made Under the Firearms Act[ii] states:

“Section 4.1 of the Conditions of Transferring Firearms and Other Weapons Regulations does not apply in respect of the transfer of a handgun to an individual if the transferor sought the authorization of the chief firearms officer, as defined in subsection 2(1) of the Firearms Act, to transfer the handgun under paragraph 23.2(1)(d) of that Act before the day on which these Regulations come into force.”

The Authorizations to Transport Restricted Firearms and Prohibited Firearms Regulations add another layer of confusion.[iii]

You may be eligible for an Authorization to Transport from a port of entry only if you already have:

  • a Restricted Possession and Acquisition Licence,
  • possess a registration certificate and
  • can provide evidence you require a handgun to train for handgun shooting disciplines.

There is one possible benefit to Trudeau’s announcement.

Canadian taxpayers will save a boatload of money once all the layoffs at the Canadian Firearms Centre take effect.
