Dear Valued CSSA Members,
As we face 2025, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your resilience and dedication throughout what has been one of the most challenging years for Canadian firearm owners. Your unwavering support of our organization during 2024’s unprecedented restrictions has demonstrated the strength of our community.
This past year tested us again. The federal government’s expansion of the prohibited firearms list, the continued challenges with the May 2020 OIC, and the implementation of more over-the-top regulations on legal firearm owners have impacted our sport shooting communities, hunters, and collectors across the nation. The handgun transfer ban and the obstacles faced by our retail members have restructured the landscape of legal firearm ownership in Canada.
Yet, despite these challenges, our membership has shown remarkable unity. Together, we’ve achieved important victories: meaningful dialogue with rural MPs who understand our concerns and growing public awareness about the distinction between legal firearm owners and criminal activities.
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re strengthening our advocacy efforts on multiple fronts. We’re expanding our women’s shooting programs and sports shooting initiatives, demonstrating that Canadian firearm owners are among the most safety-conscious and responsible citizens in our country.
Your membership is more crucial than ever. Each of you represents the true face of Canadian gun ownership: responsible, law-abiding citizens who respect our country’s hunting heritage and sporting traditions. Whether you’re a farmer protecting livestock, a competitive shooter, or a hunter providing for your family, you embody the values that have shaped Canadian firearm ownership for generations.
In 2025, we’ll continue our fight for evidence-based policies that target criminal activities rather than lawful owners. We’re committed to advocating for sport shooters and hunters, supporting our rural communities, and preserving Canada’s proud heritage of responsible firearm use.
To our members who have firearms under recent prohibitions, please note an amnesty is in place until October 30, 2025. With the current state of this government, it seems they will not be in power much longer. Surrendering your newly prohibited firearms is only voluntary while the amnesty is in place; the incoming Conservative government has publicly stated they will reverse all of Trudeau’s gun control measures that target our community.
Thank you for standing with us through these challenging times. Your support enables us to maintain our position as Canada’s leading voice for responsible firearm owners. Together, we’ll work toward a 2025 that better recognizes and respects law-abiding Canadian firearm owners.
Standing strong for Canadian values and the firearms community,
Diane Town
President
