Mark Carney’s “Reinvigorated” Gun Grab?

Mark Carney’s grand pronouncement that he will “reinvigorate the implementation of an efficient gun-buyback program for assault-style firearms” is laughable.

The Liberal government, via Bill Blair, has claimed they will impose their Firearms Confiscation Compensation Scheme for the past five years. They haven’t confiscated a single banned firearm from a licensed owner, despite wasting $67 million.

Police forces, Canada Post and provincial governments have all pushed back against the confiscations.

The Toronto Police Association (TPA) says, “The evidence is clear: Gun bans and buybacks aren’t working. 88% of crime guns in Toronto are traced to the US. We need real solutions that target smuggling and crime – not law-abiding gun owners.”

The Durham Regional Police Association said, “The Conservative Party of Canada and Pierre Poilievre have made a pledge to Canadians to deal with issues surrounding changes to bail reform, repeat violent offenders, the flow of illegal handguns, drug trafficking and, most importantly, hold criminals accountable, ensuring the hard work done by Officers and risks to communities are addressed.”

Canada Post refused to participate in the collection of firearms prohibited by the May 1, 2020, Order in Council or ship them for destruction because of security concerns for their staff.

Saskatchewan and Alberta both passed legislation to ensure the rights of their citizens would be respected if the federal government ever tried to implement their promised confiscations.

Bill Blair can’t even get out of the starting gate.

What makes Mark Carney believe that Bill Blair can “reinvigorate” the long-promised Firearms Confiscation Compensation Scheme when he still doesn’t have a plan?

And Carney’s claim that he’ll introduce shiny new “red flag laws”?

Licensed firearms owners are already subjected to daily background checks to ensure they haven’t violated the conditions of their gun license.

The Firearms Act, introduced by a previous Liberal government, put red flag laws at the core of their legislation.

What will Mark Carney do that hasn’t already been for over 30 years ago?

The solution to Carney’s “reinvigorated” firearms confiscation compensation scheme is simple.

Vote for your local Conservative Candidate today by going to your local Elections Canada office or vote at the Advance Polls from April 18th to 21st, from 9am to 9am.

The only way we stop the nonsense is to elect a government that respects Canadians, something the Liberal government – no matter who leads it – cannot comprehend.
